Hey, Upper East Siders – did you miss that line? Seven years ago, CW’s Gossip Girl ended after entertaining us from 2007 to 2012 for six seasons.
It was where we developed a love-hate relationship with Leighton Meester’s ever-sassy Blair Waldorf; sympathized with the rollercoaster arc of Blake Lively’s Serena Van Der Woodsen; got irritated yet swoon over Ed Westwick’s uber-sleek Chuck Bass; and fell in love with Penn Badgley’s Dan Humphrey as well as Chace Crawford’s Nate Archibald.
Now that a reboot has been given a go signal, will we able to see a more mature storyline revolving around our beloved actors?
Era of Reboots
There are a lot of series that don’t die. Friends, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, these are just a few shows whose legacy still lives on – that up until now people ask for a remake or revival. It is amazing how these can bridge the gaps between generations.
Now, we can add Gossip Girl to that roster and thankfully, it will soon come our way via HBO Max after CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. TV ordered 10 episodes.
While this is good news among fans of the original show, they shouldn’t expect that the reboot will still focus on Serena’s posh life and Blair’s evil yet impressive plans.
This upcoming Gossip Girl show would be set eight years after the website “went dark.” It will zoom in on a new set of rich teens in a New York private school who fell under the watchful eyes of the anonymous Gossip Girl.
As expected, it would be more modern, taking into consideration the effects of social media and the changes that the Big Apple has had in the years.
‘Gossip Girl’ Plot
For those unaware, Gossip Girl centered on Manhattan’s elite teens, whose intertwining lives and arcs made things complicated.
But, needless to say, their problems aren’t the same as that of an average Jane or Joe as most of them are affluent.
Gossip Girl, to put it simply, is a gossip queen that is on top of everything that’s happening and shares scoops and juicy drama details via texts, like the true genius that she is.
Later, we learned that the unnamed person was actually Dan, a revelation that proved to be lackluster to some fans.
Old Cast Members
While a reboot is finally green-lit, the real question we all have been asking is if some of the cast are reprising their roles, albeit with a mature and older character, or would make cameos.
Leighton has been giving mixed answers about a possible comeback, but mostly leaned toward a yes. While she admitted she hadn’t heard of an offer nor of a remake of Gossip Girl, the Single Parents star said she is down to being Blair once again.
Blake also echoed the same sentiment but factored in her busy schedule now that she has kids and how she wanted to do other things rather than a repeat of what she already had done.
Despite these things, the Shallows actress clarified that it would depend if it is good. Meanwhile, Kristen Bell, who famously voiced the anonymous gossip-monger, just let out a maybe, and if in case she couldn’t fill in the role, she quipped that she would tap James Earl Jones to do it.
