For the past ten years, two of the world’s most famous pop stars, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have been in embroiled in a bit of a celebrity stand-off.
It had gotten to the point that their fans believed there was no hope for the two to reconcile and get back together as friends again.
However, the world was pleasantly shocked when Katy posted a photo on her Instagram account last Tuesday.
In the post, Katy tagged Taylor and set the location to “let’s be friends.” Did we just witness the two pop divas reconcile after a decade-long wait? Let’s read and find out!
The Reconciling Post
Katy posted a picture of a large plate filled with homemade chocolate chip cookies with pink icing on top of the plate forming words that read “Peace at Last.” As if the post wasn’t intriguing enough in itself, Perry specified the location as “Let’s be friends.”
Fans were delighted to see the caption of the image, “feels good” with a heart emoji with Taylor Swift herself tagged in the caption!
What’s more, Swift herself replied with 13 heart emojis – the digits signifying her favorite number!
While the photo lacks certain specifics, it led millions of fans to speculate whether or not the two famous pop stars have finally reconciled after ten long years of feud!
The Friendship
Perry and Swift’s friendship and subsequent “bad blood” goes way back to 2009. Swift tweeted a post stating how much she loved Katy as she listened to her “Waking up in Vegas” single.
Swift even said she’d hung posters of Katy on her bedroom wall. Perry replied how sweet Swift was and invited her to write a song and collaborate together for an album.
The origin of the feud can be traced back to when Swift allegedly dated the famous musician John Mayer and subsequently proceeded to write a song named “Dear John” after they split.
The singer took multiple jabs at her ex, even saying that 19 was too young to be played with by his so-called “dark and twisted” games.
The Feud
Unfortunately for Perry, she ended up dating Swift’s ex, Mayer in 2012 which naturally did not earn her a lot of friendship points from Swift.
The two singers took to stage during their 2013 concert tour and fans couldn’t help but notice the awkwardness between them.
Their differences grew bigger when Taylor Swift had a high profile feud with Kanye West in 2016 when she claimed West used some of her song’s lyrics without her permission.
Though West claimed he got approval from the pop star on the phone before the release of his single, fans were quick to flood Swift’s social media pages with comments expressing their disapproval with the emojis of a snake.
The Retaliation
Following the drama, Perry surprised the world when she released “Swish Swish,” which her fans interpreted as a reference to Swift, making a noise like that of a snake.
The music video also featured a wolf in sheep’s clothing, which could have been in reference to her earlier tweet against the singer.
The Patch Up
After ten long years of being on opposing ends of celebrity drama, the fans are finally happy to see both stars back together, which makes us wonder; could there be another unforgettable collaboration and a potential album on the horizon? One can only hope.
