No one did suspense films like Alfred Hitchcock. He was the master of the technique. And what made his movies even better, is that he worked with the best and most famous actresses and actors of the time, like Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly, using them on multiple projects many times. Hitchcock was known to also work with the most beautiful actresses. Using amazing movie costumes and movie props, he knew how to play on emotions, grow the suspense, build the story, then give a bang of an ending. Do you have a favorite Hitchcock film? Joan Fontaine – Suspicion – Deceased – 96 Years Old – Natural Causes
She was born Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland but known professionally as Joan Fontaine. Joan and her sister Olivia de Havilland had recurring illnesses that caused their family to move to California from Japan for conditions more conducive to their being healthy. Joan discovered acting, and her career significantly improved after starring in the Alfred Hitchcock film Rebecca, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. The year after, she won for her role on Suspicion. Fontaine died of natural causes in her sleep at the age of 96 in 2013.
Grace Kelly – Rear Window – Deceased – 52 Years Old – Traumatic Brain Injury
Famous director Alfred Hitchcock was one of Grace Kelly’s last mentors, as she went on to become royalty in Europe, with diamond necklaces and tiaras. Kelly was loaned by MGM Studios to star in several Hitchcock films. Two became Rear Window and To Catch a Thief. Explaining why she committed to the role of Lisa Fremont in Rear Window, Kelly said Hitchcock sat and talked to her extensively about the film, all through the making of Dial M for Murder. That was even prior to the idea of her starring in it.
Eva Marie Saint – North by Northwest – Still Acting – 94 Years Old
Her performance on On the Waterfront won her an Oscar, but Eva Marie Saint was more readily identified as ‘Eve Kendall’ in North by Northwest. It was her only Hitchcock film. Her character was that of a seemingly innocent lady on a train who gives assistance to Roger Thornhill, played by Grant. He’s wrongfully accused of hiding a murder from the police. Saint went on to become more popular and praised, and decades later, won an Emmy. Most recently, she was at the 2018 Academy Award ceremony, in a beautifully done makeup.
