Price Worth Every Penny
Over the Sunset Strip, a hillside house once occupied by actress-singer Judy Garland has been listed on the market for $6.129 million. She had lived there with her spouse, Vincente Minnelli, who was most famous for being a movie and stage director.
It was in the mid-’40s when Garland and Minnelli enjoyed the luxuries of the abode with their daughter, Liza Minnelli. Later on, the property was bought by TV actor and comedian Wally Cox, who handed it over to Rat Pack entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. in 1955. While Davis lived in the Hollywood Hills home, musical acts like The Band also stayed at the property and recorded some music there as well.
Its Grand Features
The main house, which was designed and constructed in 1941 by celebrity architect John Elgin Woolf, has been modernized but still bears relics from its former Hollywood tenants. Right next to Liza Minnelli’s previous bedroom is the downstairs living room. The room holds a hidden doorway found behind the bookcases and leads directly to the original master bedroom. It contains a walk-in closet as well as a dressing room, which remains intact through the years and even has its originally-made mirrors.
On the other hand, when the multi-talented Sammy Davis owned the house, he made sure to make grandiose alterations to the outer area, rebuilding it into an artist’s paradise. He installed a spectacular swimming pool, a pool house of 1,100-square-foot with two attached baths, plush greenery adorned with bamboo and banana trees, and various rare tropical plants. The recent addition of a firepit completed a magazine front page look!
Describing The Rest Of The House
The extravagant haven is around 4,999 square feet and has five bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms. Its front foyer traverses to a large lobby with maple floorboards and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the spectacular hills of Hollywood. There is a hearth as you go over to the living room, and another step higher will take you to the dining area. In between the two floors is a home office. How cool is that, huh?
A reimagined kitchen that features an eye candy elliptical stone backsplash and fancy machinery is right within reach of both the living and dining room. Both Garland and Minnelli’s living quarters were over at the mid-level office area, following a secondary living room that had a folding screen easily transformable into a media room perfect for movie nights.
According to Los Angeles Times, holding the listing is Alexandra Pfeifer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.
